What Is a Soft Decline?
A soft decline is when a bank temporarily rejects a payment — not because the card is invalid, but because of a temporary issue: insufficient funds at that moment, bank server timeout, daily limit briefly exceeded, or anti-fraud temporary hold. Unlike hard declines (stolen card, invalid account), soft declines often succeed on retry. But merchants never retry — they just lose the sale.

How Smart Retry Works
Failure Classification
When a payment fails, Zyrix classifies it in under 1 second: soft decline or hard decline. Hard declines are not retried — they fail immediately and correctly.
Optimal Timing
For soft declines, Zyrix calculates the optimal retry window based on the failure code. Insufficient funds: retry at +4 hours. Bank timeout: retry at +15 minutes. Daily limit: retry at midnight +1 hour.
Customer Notification
Customer receives a gentle WhatsApp or SMS: 'Your payment didn't go through — we'll try again in 4 hours. No action needed from you.' No alarm, no friction.
Silent Retry
At the calculated optimal time, Zyrix retries the exact same payment. If successful, merchant and customer are notified. If failed again, it's classified as hard decline.
